India may have been hit by various forms of injuries and the problem of key players being out of form, yet Sehwag is quite confident that the Indian team will do well in the forthcoming World Cup.
Four Indian players were sent back from South Africa in the midst of the series , as each of them were injured , though not very seriously, yet serious enough for them to take precaution just a month before the World Cup.
Sachin , Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir have quite recovered from their injuries and will have completely rehabilitated before India play their first warm up match against Australia on the 13th of February in Bengaluru. However Praveen Kumar’s chances of playing his first World Cup are now at cross-roads, as there are indications that he might not recover in time. To add to that Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina have failed to perform well in the past few matches.
However Virender Sehwag does not think that these shall have an effect on the team’s performance. In his words, “Time is coming for Indian batsmen to perform in front of the home crowd. I am looking forward to that. Everyone has not been scoring big hundreds of late but now is the time for us with World Cup round the corner. I am confident everybody will score.”
Talking about India’s opening match against Bangladesh in the Sher-E-Bangla stadium (Mirpur), Sehwag said that though Bangladesh had managed to defeat India in the 2007 WC which eventually led to India’s ouster, this time round India has a good side and shall take revenge.
He further added that playing in front of the home crowd would make them feel proud and India certainly has an advantage playing on home turf. He said,”We are playing in India and know the conditions better than other teams in our group. We know how wickets will behave. When we played against England last time, we have won 5- 0. Against South Africa, we have done well against them in their country and in India. We recently won the Test series 2- 1.”
Sehwag, who would be playing his third consecutive World Cup, said that he was fortunate enough to be playing in the World Cup in front of the home crowd and that the team as well as he himself shall do their best to win the Cup.
