Now only 10 days are left for the World Cup to begin and Praveen Kumar has had the worst luck due to his injuries and Sreesanth has had the best luck due to Praveen Kumar’s injury.
Whoever was with Sreesanth when this news was announced probably saw him break dancing.
A fitness test was conducted for Sreesanth by the BCCI before he was selected as a replacement for Praveen Kumar. Praveen Kumar has been suffering from an elbow injury that he sustained during India’s tour of South Africa, last month he was sent to England for a few days so as to get the best treatment but even then there was no recovery which is why India had to ultimately decide who would take his place in the final-15 squad and Sreesanth was it.
Many were excited on hearing Sreesanth was taken, especially Kerala Ranji Coach Ranganathan. “Ever since the news of Praveen Kumar’s injury was in the air I had a gut feeling that Sreesanth would make it to the team and he has done it. He has the fighting spirit and I am certain he will do well,” said Ranganathan.
Sreesanth was in Bangalore when he heard the news and was overjoyed, “I just do not know how to express my feelings. I am so happy. Now I just want to give my best if I get an opportunity in the playing eleven,” said Sreesanth. Hopefully he will use this opportunity to the fullest and not let it go to waste.
What Sreesanth will have to keep in mind is this time everyone is serious and the Indian players will be on their best behaviour which means no amount of offensiveness will be taken. He has to control his temper or else he will embarrass himself as well as his country that are going to play host to players and tourists from all over the world.
There were reports that said Coach Gary Kirsten and Captain MS Dhoni actually preferred R Vinay Kumar over Sreesanth, but it was ultimately Sree who got the nod. There is a very strong possibility that the fact that he is a pain on field must have contributed as a negative. Either way, now that those hundred live strong bands that he wears seems to have worked, he better watch himself.
