There has been a rumour circulating television channels and websites saying Kevin Pietersen plans to retire from his ODI career after the World Cup.
According to “The Daily Mail” Pietersen wished to retire from the 50 over format as he wants to spend more time with his family, the hectic schedule made him decide to concentrate on test and t20 formats only.
Many during this brief duration of thinking KP’s ODI career was soon to be over started forming opinions on why he was making this move. Many believed that after he was removed from captaincy in 2009 he was never really as invested, plus he has also been suffering from an on and off injury of the Achilles.
Some believed that this decision of KP’s was made with the IPL in mind, in the next IPL season which is scheduled to start only days after the World Cup, Kevin Pietersen will be seen playing for the Deccan Chargers who bought him for £375,000.
As everyone knows, there is too much money involved there, with him being able to play full time, he can cash in his big pay cheque and not have to move for the rest of the year, spend time with family indeed.
Players like Adam Gilchrist find the IPL to be of most use for this exact reason, so it is possible that KP is lured with the same idea.
However if this was to be true, it would be strange indeed as KP was heard poking fun at the IPL along with many Aussies and the “happenings” one might tell him, don’t bite the hand that feeds.
So Kevin Pietersen admitted that there is no way he is quitting the ODI format after the World Cup and has no intention to do so.
On twitter Kevin Pietersen himself laid these rumours to rest, he tweeted “Just to set the record straight… I have NO intention of retiring from ODIs after the World Cup!”
But as we all now know, the rumours circulating are all false, unfortunately for KP however, the decision on his ODI career is not really in his own hands. He has not scored a single century since the last 22 ODI’s he has been in and was sacked as captain. The World Cup will determine whether he will even be picked for the England Cricket team.
So no matter how much Kevin Pietersen whines about how the World Cup schedule is abysmal he has no choice but to play his best or else he will be forced to retire from the ODI’s whether he likes it or not.
