MS Dhoni has been preparing with his team for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. India hasn’t won a world cup since 1983 and the last World Cup was such a disaster that nobody even wants to think about it, which is why the amount of hype considering it is in home grounds is not as much as what it was expected to be with respect to the media etc.
No over exaggeration and predictions are being done this time which is just as well.
Dhoni believes that India aren’t the under dogs any more, well he might be happy with that fact but hopefully he wont be cocky about it either.
India has under the coaching of Gary Kirsten of South Africa reached great heights, many like Sachin Tendulkar and Harbhajan Singh have the utmost respect for him and that is very obviously visible.
It is good to see that considering the drama that unfolded with the previous coach Greg Chappell of Australia (doesn’t that answer the question) he not only gave the country the finger quite literally but also ruined the camaraderie between the players, he blatantly and viciously ruined Sourav Ganguly’s career. That as per me was considered to be India’s cricketing dark ages or for better use of the term the “Cold War era”. A sad time but at least it was without match fixing accusations.
We expect great things from this team this time around, and many have to make peace with the fact that this may be Sachin Tendulkar’s last world cup, we would want him to have achieved everything he possibly could in the cricketing world wont we?
On asking MS Dhoni what he thinks the fate of the Indian team will be like during the World Cup he answered” I never predict what will happen in cricket. We believe in each other and we believe in the process. We will take each game in the right frame of mind,” This would be comforting to believe except for the fact that he has a “jotish” and has previously been involved in rumours stating he takes advice from the Jotish about everything from marriage proposals to batting line ups, who knows maybe its true maybe its bogus either way India will want the trophy there’s no doubt about it and nothing his jotish will suggest can change that fact.
Dhoni also commented on Kevin Pietersen’s irritation on the schedule as England has been allotted matches on 6 day intervals which KP thinks is ridiculous, Dhoni however abruptly replied saying it is difficult to prepare the perfect schedule.
Whether India will win or not nobody knows as of now, but underdogs or not, they better not go in over confident as we all know and remember what overconfidence did to them the last time.
