Melbourne, Feb 09: Australia’s well known and experienced middle order batsman Mike Hussey and spinner Nathan Hauritz were left out of the Aussie’s World Cup squad on the eve of their departure to sub continent. Cricket Australia announced that Mr Cricket Mike didn’t healed from his torn hamstring and the first choice spinner didn’t recover after dislocating his right shoulder in a one day against England last month. Though both the players went down under surgery to be fit and play the WC but the chances of recovering on time was always difficult for them. Hussey claimed he was sure that he would have missed the first two matches of the tournament.
Mike Hussey’s absence will certainly be a huge blow for Australia as he was only one of the two batsmen, who were in great touch during the Ashes series lost to England and averages 51 in 151 ODI’s that he played. He is well known for recovering Australian team from pressure situation and is a good finisher too. The replacement for the both the players were Callum Ferguson and Jason Krejza, who made it to 15 man squad, which is due to leave to India on Wednesday. Besides that Aussie skipper Ponting is also recovering from broken finger. The other players including in the list of injuries were Shaun Marsh and Xavier Doherty.
Even the Australian rivals England are facing the same problem of injuries in their team. The latest to join is batsman Eoin Morgan, who ruled out of the WC with a broken finger, coach Andy Flower told during the press conference here on Tuesday. The replacement for Morgan will be Essex all rounder Ravi Bopara.
