Mumbai, Feb 09: All the cycling enthusiasts and the fans of the city has an extremely sad news as their favourite and cycling legend Lance Armstrong would not to come to Mumbai with his team Radioshack, who are going to participate in Tour De Mumbai this week as he is very busy preparing “for a third career as a triathlete”. “Yes it’s absolutely true that unfortunately Lance would not be a part of Tour De Mumbai. He has a very busy schedule with his Livestrong organisation and he is preparing now for a third career as triathlete,” Radioshack’s team manager Alain Gallopin told in an email interview.
The record holder of seven times Tour De France winner was reportedly had his last overseas Tour De last month. Lance Armstrong, who has won seven titles consecutively from 1999 to 2005 after surviving from testicular cancer, founded the organisation known as Livestrong, an NGO, which works for the cancer affected people. Two stage international Class 1 cycling race will be held in this week in Nashik and Mumbai, where USA’s Radioshacks and Italy’s top most team Liquigas, two of the top professional cycling teams will take part in it. The USA team will have three time holder of the green jersey sprinters classification at Tour De France Robbie McEwen, New Zealander Sam Bewly, who was the bronze medallist in the Beijing Olympics, five time South African cyclist of the year Robbie Hunter, double time European champion from Poland Michal Kwiatkowski, Japanese Fumiyuki Beppu and American Bjorn Seleander.
The Italian team will include the Elia Vivani, who finished his first pro-season by winning the Memorial Marco Pantani and the Memorial Frank Vandenbroucke. Others to represent the team will be Italian Tiziano Dall Antonia, multiple time member of USA World Championship team Timothy Duggan, American Edward King and Alan Marangoni.
