The French maestro hopes to end the Gunners six year trophy drought. All of us saw the shocking exclusion of Samir Nasri from the controversial France world cup squad, all of us felt bad for him too, a player like him had to be at the world cup. But did not being a part of the world cup and clearing his head on what had to be done help him more than it would ever have if he had been on the plane to Africa? Guess. That question is answered well.
We also saw the coming of age of the player touted as the next big thing in France by their solitary world cup winning hero and the more recently Laureus Lifetime Achievement Award winner Zinedine Zidane, arguably Nasri has been Arsenal’s best player this season with scoring, creating chances, defending doing everything that a match-winner does. Even against the best team in the world young Samir showed his class. Sending a cross straight into the feet of the diminutive Russian Arshavin who netted home the winner for the Gunners against the best team in the world.
Arsene Wenger, signed as the next Zinedine Zidane from Olympique Marseille in the summer of 2008 had to face stiff competition from clubs like Real Madrid and Inter Milan. The Frenchman felt he would truly bloom only under his compatriot. Arsenal is known for developing young talent into world class performers. Recently he won the France football French player of the year for his breath-taking performances in the year of 2010.
The only thing that surrounds him is his contract which is about to expire in the summer of 2012. He has been linked with many clubs trying to fight for his signature. Recently the agent cooled some rumours saying it would be best for him to stay at Arsenal as he is destined for success here. Wenger too was said to have told him that players who change clubs every couple years are less successful than player, who stay with one club. In possibility chances of the French ace leaving the club aren’t high.
Nasri recently in an interview with the sports magazine was quoted saying “All I can say is I am enjoying my time here at Arsenal. I feel I have a lot more to contribute here. A lot I have to achieve. The reason I joined Arsenal was to win lots of trophies and I don’t expect to leave the club without doing so.”
With less than sixteen months left on his contract. Nasri admitted that there were going to be talks with the club in summer once the season ends. He feels the time to win things is now and he wants to solely concentrate on that aspect only.
“We have made a promise to speak on this subject only after the season ends, from now all my focus is on winning the league title and also achieving as much as possible in the Champions League.”
With the player destined to stay with the North London Club; Arsenal can look to good times ahead.
