Gauti’s Going For The Kill

Indian Cricket team opening batsman Gautam Gambhir is gearing up for the World Cup. With the fact that the tournament will be on his turf it will be an advantage as well as a disadvantage. An advantage because they will know their countries conditions and the crowd will rest assured be screaming themselves horse and it can be a disadvantage because the pressure on them will be enormous and there will be no where to hide.

Gautam Gambhir was ruled out for the World Cup in 2007, reports say that he was so disappointed that he considered leaving cricket entirely.

This time around he gets his chance; he wishes to do something unique for his home crowd. Even though Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir’s opening partner is known for his reckless yet terrorising game it appears that Gauti wants to make a difference and stand out this time.

Even though Gauti wishes to do something special, he still doesn’t want his emotions to run away with him, though the intensity and magnitude of this tournament is major Gambhir wants to treat it like any other series and keep it simple.

“The World Cup brings with it the pressure of expectations. I want to keep things simple. Naturally, I can’t wish away the fact that it’s a World Cup, but I will try to keep my head clear. I would stick to what I have been doing all these years; the World Cup can’t be anything different,” Gambhir said in an interview.

Just like Novac Djokovic the winner of the Men’s Single (Tennis)  in the Australian Open said that the mental battle is what is required to be won in matches of high nerves, similarly Gambhir states that it will be the mental preparedness of the player which will reflect the players game and performance throughout the World Cup.

“You can’t effect changes in your technique in a month or 15 days’ time. Everything depends on your mental toughness and how ready you are to take on the challenge. My attempt would be to give my 100 percent, and I should feel at the end of the day that I have given my best, not that I could have done better,” he said.

Hopefully Gautam Gambhir will shine bright in this World Cup and for all you know might manage to crack a smile now and then. However we are all glad that he didn’t give up on cricket and get into his fathers import-export business.

Writing is something I’ve always felt was an outlet to every thought that crosses your mind. I enjoy reading, watching the television and of course, writing. Besides writing my greatest passion is playing the piano. Hope you enjoy what I write!
