Valencia, Feb 04: Felipe Massa had a nightmare on Thursday, when his Ferrari F1 car caught fire during the practice session in just completion of the two laps of the Valencia circuit. He found his car too hot to handle as it was impossible to drive once it got fired up. The Brazilian driver testing for the very first time this year after his Spanish teammate was having the same on Tuesday and Wednesday in the F150. The Italian team said that Massa pulled over when there was an oil leak, which was caused due to breakage of clamp.
“Unfortunately the lubricant ended up on the exhausts, which led to a small fire breaking out, which caused some damage to the car. The mechanics are on for the repairing work of the car as soon it got damaged but it is unlikely that the car would be ready to compete and back on track before the 3.00 in the afternoon,” said the Italian team. Massa was sixth overall in the last season while Alonso, who is double time World Champion, was the runner up which got Massa under lot of pressure to improve his performance and there was lot of speculation about his future with the team.
On the other side, India’s Narain Karthikeyan gathered pace as his best time was 17.769 seconds on the second day of testing. Narain’s time on the second day of testing was the sixth speediest among the 15 runners overall and certainly it was improved one comparing to his last of 1:18:0029 (45 laps) that he did on Tuesday. The 34 year old Narain completed 80 laps and was satisfied with the progress being made by him at the Ricardo Tomo circuit.
