The Bayern Munich man has sensationally revealed that, he was a subject of January transfer window bids from the premiership duo.
“I only found out about the offer, after the club had turned it down.” The Spanish born, German international told Sports Bild weekly in an Interview.
“But it doesn’t matter in any way, I am already at a top club (Bayern), and I am very happy here, as I always wanted to play here.”
Chelsea had offered $56.48 million for the Bayern talisman; the offer was straightaway rejected, the Bavarians not willing to budge.
Chelsea then turned their attention to Former Liverpool striker Fernando Torres with a whopping $79.2 million bid, just before the transfer deadline.
Liverpool also was interested in the prolific goal scorer, they almost bought him to Anfield in August on loan, but the deal fell through in the dying minutes. The reds made a bid for the Bayern No. 33 which also was rejected. Liverpool had no choice but to turn their attention to the Magpies hero Andy Carrol.
Mario Gomez, 25, joined Bayern Munich from VFB Stuttgart for a record 30 million pound move, is the current top scorer with 16 goals ahead of SC Freiburg’s Papiss Demba Cisse and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Theofanis Gekas. Gomez is in his second season in Munich, Played a vital part scoring fourteen goals in the season , winning the Double (German league and cup championship) and reaching the champions league final, where they lost to Jose Mourinho’s treble winning Inter Milan, denying Bayern the treble.
Though by Mario Gomez’s standards and the hefty transfer fee, he was deemed a disappointment, Falling down the pecking order to the in- form IvicaOlic and MiroslavKlose, who had a brilliant world cup. But injuries to both meant, Head coach Louis van Gaal had no option but to deploy Gomez in the starting eleven, and it has been a blessing in disguise for the Bavarian outfit, as Gomez scored 27 goals in all competitions in just 20 starts, becoming one of the key members of the squad.
It is understood that Bayern were very keen to hold on to Gomez nicknamed ‘Super Mario’ for his exploits this season, with season ending injury to IvicaOlic, and the fragile MiroslavKlose. Thomas Mueller and Mario Gomez are the only forwards available, with the former being deployed in a utility role.
The way Super Mario is playing, Hollywood FC would be keen to hold on to him, for many more years.
