World Cup is a touch away now. And, we can all feel the passion, exuberance and zeal building up. We all cricket lovers are eagerly waiting for the Cup to kick off. The players have all arrived in the subcontinent. The responsibility is huge on the international cricketers and the pressure has started to build on them – They have to deliver.
And, with the spotlight totally on the event many press-conferences are taking place. Different captains and players are coming with their views about the cup. And, we all know that an India-Pakistan in the past has served as a treat to watch. The fervor and intensity on the field is immense. And, if the occasion is a final of a mega event like the World Cup it becomes even more tremendous to spectate!
Afridi in a press conference came up saying “A World Cup final against India in Mumbai would be an ideal finish to the World Cup because I have always believed that cricketing ties between the two countries have always helped in bringing the two nations closer to each other.” He looked confident and also said that once Pakistan reach the knockout stage playing in India won’t be any extra pressure.
He also said that there was no extra pressure on him either due to Pakistan Cricket Board decision’sdelayin naming the captain for the World Cup.
“I don’t think about these things and even in New Zealand the coach just told me to concentrate on cricket. That is what I did. But obviously it is a big honor for me to lead my country in a major event like the World Cup.”
And Afridi boldly and rationally also commented on the present controversial scene in Pakistan Cricket, “I would request everyone to just let this issue be dead and back the team for the World Cup because right now we don’t need any controversies but the prayers and well wishes of the people and media,” said Afridi.
