There is always news to be shared. When the country and its sub-continents are preparing for hosting the tenth version of the Cricket World Cup, Australia is sizzling with the top seeded tennis stars racing for the Australian Open Trophy.
Soon after the Chennai Open, our players flew to Australia with the grace to give their best.
India’s hope vanishes in little time as soon as the tournament began. The Indian chapter was ended in a melancholy note when Somdev Devvarman lost to Spaniard Tommy Robredo. The sets were not nail-biting or rather would make you heart reverberate. Bland, improbable, anticipated loss!
Somdev’ sets were gripping at the initial levels when he went very close to Tommy in the first set; he lost with 6-7 (4), 3-6, 4-6.
Somdev’ debutant Australian Open tournament certainly did not put him in the dumps instead taught him lessons to face the match with greater charisma.
The coming back of Sania did not instill much of hope though, because on a bird’s eye view it looked as if the player was not going to make a serious effort to return.
To break all the misconceptions of the people Sania gave the spectators an inspiring show which lasted for sixty odd minutes. Those sixty odd minutes would include only the first set of the match, then the rest?
She would have perhaps lost all the fuel in the initial set fighting with the Former World No. 1, Justine Henin, the seven time Grand Slam winner of Belgium.
Henin always known for her energy and agility, did not seem enervated at any point of the match. After her loss to Sania in the first set, Henin raged back to sustain a place for her by winning with greater margin. Sania lost after bagging a set for herself. 7-5,3-6,1-6 were the set scores. The victory of the first set churned hopes in the minds of the fans but the remaining two sets failed to sustain the impact quotient.
The Indian dreams dims off in the sands of Aussies.
Sania said that this match helped her know where she stands as a tennis player on a global scale.
She wishes to work more on the scale, not that she went gaga about the ATP ranking or the grades, it is just to ensure that she would bypass the qualifiers in the matches ahead!
What is left out?
Though like a hackneyed phrase, the spectators are anticipating the stereotyped final event between the “Friendly rivals” the Federer-Nadal duo.
Though not great news; Federer, Wozniacki, Venus move up in the ladder to the finals.
More on the Australian Open 2011 is yet to come.
