Indian chess star Viswanathan Anand’s draw with Alexander Grischuk at the Tata Steel chess tournament at Wijik aan Zee in the Netherlands paved way for USA’s Nakamura to catch up with him in lead at 4.5 points. Like Nakamura, top players like Magnus Carlsen and Vladimir Kramnik recorded their victories while the fresh player Anish Giri, played with white and lost the game.
With just a half-point lead obtained by beating Jan Smeets on Thursday, Anand’s attitude towards the game was quite aggressive. Playing white, he used the Queen’s side to launch an attack on the opponent’s king. But the latter, senced the tricky move and nullified his plans. The players took less than two hours to finish the game bagging equal points. Anand’s next match would be against Carlsen and would be the most awaited battle.
In group “B”, Surya Shekhar Ganguly lost a power play against David Navara while Tania Sachdev (3.5) stunned the leader and fourth seeded Italian, Daniele Vocaturo in 51 moves.
