Srikkanth is the chairman of the selection committee of Indian board of selectors. He in Kochi talked a bit about Sreesanth as a bowler, his cricketing life and the future of the game in Kerela! Let’s have a look.
Although, Sreesanth has been overlooked in the squad for the mega event – the ICC Cricket World Cup, by the selectors, I guess his talent and potential has been appreciated by many after the announcement of squad. First we saw Ganguly saying he was surprised at the exclusion of the excited and eccentric out swinger from the team. Now, we have the chief selector himself having a take on the issue: “I have told him (Sreesanth) to be calm and he will be a great bowler. Maturity comes with passage of time and experience that one gains playing international cricket. Some people are playful. Maturity will come. Sreesanth is an excellent bowler and he has an excellent outswing.”
He also described the selector’s job as a ‘thankless one’. And, he also said that Cricket is a futuristic game and has evolved over the years. Cricket is a great unifying factor in India and all the three formats – Test, ODIs and Twety20 – will co-exist, he said.“Cricket will overtake football and athletics in next two years in Kerala. Every state needs icons. Orignally, the state had PT Usha and now it is Sreesanth. Many more Sreesanths will be emerging from Kerala,” he said.
Srikkanth also commented on his cricketing career. “Sometimes I feel, I should have scored more runs, should not have thrown my wicket,” he said. He never wanted to be a professional cricketer and his motto remained just to give his best and leave the rest to God.
