It’s been a year or so since when Sarwan has been ignored by the West Indies selectors. But, then guys experience counts! And, when it’s a big occasion like the World Cup who would want to take any chances? So, Sarwan has been called back for the World Cup.
“The Selection Committee deliberated extensively over the selection of this most important World Cup squad and while choosing some players was straightforward we believe that we have come up with a good mix of players who will be able to do well in the Asian conditions,” chairman of the selection committee Clyde Butts said.
And, WI also came up with the only one wicket-keeper Carlton Baugh Jr in the squad. This might be due to good gaps between consecutive matches. Butts looked confident with the team and said that the WI had some match winners who can really do well. “We have some of the most experienced ODI cricketers on the international stage along with the effervescence and freshness of some quality young players who we are confident can not only contribute to the team but win matches.
The WI would be playing 3 ODI’s against Sri Lanka prior to the World Cup on 31 Jan, and 4 & 6 Feb. And, thereafter they would also be engaged in a preparatory camp for the World Cup. The WI have their 1st World Cup match against the proteas on 24 Feb. Prior to the World Cup, the squad will play three One-Day Internationals against Sri Lanka on 31 January, 4 and 6 February. The squad will be thereafter be engaged in a preparatory camp before its first World Cup match on 24 February against South Africa.
