The Pakistan Cricket has always been in news for all wrong reasons. It seems like the players and the board love to get into controversies. That’s why every now and then we see a spat between the PCB and a player! There’s seems to be no synergy in between the players, coach and the board. The maverick retired Pakistan fast bowler Waqar Younis, who is also the coach of the national team presently, recently criticized the PCB for a delay in naming their captain for the World Cup. Now, PCB has issued Waqar a notice to explain his comments!
The media manager Nadeem Sarwar said “We have asked him to explain his statement over the captaincy”. He explained that PCB has now adopted a new media policy for players and officials and won’t tolerate any violations! The new guidelines also restrict direct interaction Waqar just led the National team to its first test series win since 2006 in the two match series in New Zealand. He on Wednesday was quoted saying by the Geo Super channel “I am surprised that the board has delayed announcing the captain. I don’t know the reasons for this but personally I think the captain should have been named with the team”. Many other ex-selectors and former cricketers have also come down hardly on the PCB’s decision.
PCB earlier had announced the 15 man squad for the World Cup, but, said it would later announce the leader. Albeit, Shahid Afridi presently is the captain for the ODI series against the Kiwis speculations have surfaced that Misbah-ul-Haq could take over the ODI leadership form him. Afridi told that he was never worried about the captaincy!”I have never run after the captaincy in my entire career. It is something for the cricket board to decide. If they feel I am the right man they will appoint me and if they don’t they will make someone else captain.”
Well, whatever it is… drama seems to be a surefire chunk with Pakistan Cricket. We have witnessed it time and again: Shoaib Akhtar troubling the PCB or Wasim Akram insulted due to helping Irfan Pathan! And, I guess even now Waqar’s statement was justified being the coach of the team. But, then we have not been able to understand Pakistan Cricket? Have we?
