The IPL Auctions:
This year, the Indian Premier League auction for the players lasted for two days wherein 350 players were listed on the bid. With 10 teams on the rolls, there prevailed a tough fight for young energetic players while the experienced warhorses were left unnoticed. Each player was assigned his own starting bid value and the bidding process began on Saturday at Bangalore. Owners of all the teams including the fresh ones; Sahara Pune Warriors and Kochi were spotted at the venue.
Rs. 1.8 crore was assigned as the base value for about 21 players. There was a tough fight between Gautam Gambhir and Yusuf Pathan. Both went into the hands of Kolkata Knight Riders.
There was yet another pathetic situation where players like Ganguly, Gibbs, Bryan Lara, James Anderson and many more were left behind. Even the native team was not willing to pick up Ganguly. This clearly depicted that more preference was given to young players while none turned towards the old achievers.
On the second day of bidding, Jayasuriya, who formerly played for Mumbai Indians, was not under the ‘wish list’ of any of the teams.
Sixteen were auctioned on the first day and 222 on the second day. The left overs went into a re-auctioning process. But none including Ganguly, Jayasuriya, Murali Kartik were sold. Later, Bangalore team picked up Kaif for 59 lakhs at the auction that took place after the re-auction process.
Schedules on the air:
Meanwhile, the IPL matches have been scheduled from April 8 to May 28, across various locations in India. With a total of 10 teams, each one will play with five at its home and away scheme. The draw of the home and away schedule was conducted during the player auction on Sunday.
