Jan 09: Mohammad Kaif should be very thankful to his stars. After being failed to be auctioned twice on Sunday, the Indian batsman finally found his place in the squad of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the third round of auction, which featured only him. Kaif’s first time name was announced on Sunday but unfortunately no one was interested in taking him. Later again his name was featured in the list of 28 unsold players, who were put on‘re-auction’. The right hand batsman from Uttar Pradesh was again unlucky enough. A little later, former Indian wicket-keeper Deep Dasgupta, who is a part of think tank of Pune Warriors, asked IPL COO Sunder Raman that whether he can bid for players from unsold players.
The other franchisees were not having any object against Deep Dasgupta and so the IPL COO gave him go ahead signal. Pune Warrior auctioneer Richard Madley took the charge again of bidding and in no time he bid for Kaif for a base price of $100,000. Just as it was looking like that Kaif is going to be in Pune Warriors team, Gayatri Reddy from Deccan Chargers took interest in this bid. After a brief pause, Pune increased the price of bid to $120,000. DC then backed out from bid and Kaif was once again sailing towards Pune. Vijay Mallya then started some drama on the field and done bid for Kaif for $130,000. Pune this time was not willing to go for more and so Kaif went in the pocket of Bangalore.
Overall 13 players were sold from 28 players that were for re-auction. Very shockingly, no one took bid for Sourav Ganguly, Chris Gayle and Brian Lara. The franchisees were interested in the unsold players list, so there were total of 28 players for the option for them to choose after the regular auction got over at around 4:30 pm.
