ICC Cricket World Cup, the sport’s biggest event is scheduled to kick off this February, 19 2011.
Any idea where it is to be held? It is in fact stupid to post such a question in this cricket-obsessed nation, this major international event will be taking place in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Here are few snippets about the game and its promotional activities at different places.
The ritual always begins with a theme song.
So this time who composed the theme song and what is in it?
AR Rahman for the Commonwealth Games, the threesome awesome for the Cricket World Cup, it is the trio who shook the Bollywood with their numerous hits, Shankar Ehsaan and Loy.
The song is called “De Ghumma Ke” which is a colloquial expression in Hindi, the typical phrase that is used to cheer up the person to give the best shot.
You would have heard it pretty frequently if you had watched the movie “Dil Bole Hadippa”. The three took great pleasure in composing for the ICC and mainly aimed at spreading the momentum of the game, spirit of victory, enthusiasm, the catch-phrases primarily look at evoking the masses jump with zeal and zest.
They did not want any hackneyed phrases in the song like “reach for the sky”, “you are the winner” and so on…
They took one more iteration and jetted with phrases that would reverberate the mind with rural flavours and feel more home than singing fictitious lines.

The players in action
The dashing opener Shewag and the skipper Dhoni as a part of the Pepsi campaign for WC-2011 will sport body paints.
This will be mere reflection of the fervour and the energy that the players and the fans have for the game. The batsman Raina and the off-spinner Harbajan will also be a part of this body paint campaign.
The mascot is here
Stumpy, the primary coloured mascot, a cute adorable elephant is the official mascot for the WC 2011. The little Stumpy (on the cut-out) blushes and stares at the visitors.
There have been already enough write ups with regard to Stumpy, so moving to the next…
The “home-affinity”
Considering the fact that this mega event is going to be held in India and its neighbouring subcontinents there is always a pressure to our players that we should not lose in our home soil. Will this pressure keep up the spirits of our men in blue? Or will it lead to an anti-climax?
If there is any repetition of the blue moments like the previous WC where our rival nation Pakistan and we were knocked out at the very beginning the charm of the WC would be lost.
India will and should play for gaining the reputation for her and to lift the trophy again after the 1983 phenomenal victory. The affinity for the home ground will motivate rather than building up the pressure in the minds of the men.
The official shop
Not the sponsor but the shop, the cricket merchandise for men, women and children exclusively designed in affordable price range will be available at the “Big Bazaar”.
ICC had appointed this shop as the authorised dealer of special apparels, accessories, soft toys of Stumpy and astronomical collections of designed tees
Imprinting begins
Finally the events promotion had begun at Sri Lanka with a giant cricket ball which will be taken all over the country. In this promotion on the huge ball tiny hand prints of the fans are imprinted.
So have you imprinted the magnificent ball?
The tenth edition of the WC with 14 teams in the fray, one winner a team of ten is required to lift the golden cup.
Who is it?
