After three years of Nadal-Federer duo’s final event at the Australian Open in men’s singles, the 2011 season is ready to give the Grand Slam title to a new chap (not exactly!). Djokovic’s triumph over the tennis maestro Federer was inconvincible for a moment; nevertheless Novak’s victory was well-deserved. After Nadal departed in his last match at Melbourne, the hopes of the Spaniards were whitewashed. Hurt-hastened Rafa decided to quit to Ferrer who is also a Spaniard. When the crowd eagerly anticipated that Federer would win the title; the ace lost to the third-seeded Novak Djokovic.
The ranking seems pretty insignificant when it is looked parallel with the performance. Novak deposed Roger with 7-6 (3), 7-5, 6-4: A clean shot indeed! A high-definition game was played on the sands of Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne by the Federer-Djokovic pair.
Is it the end of Roger realm?
The second-seeded Federer, the winner of 16 Grand Slam title in the last seven years is, at present, in front of the reign of more forceful players. Roger had said that “Novak was the better player tonight, I should accept it and move on”. He reassured that he would be back like his old best times. This loss was out of the blue yet a lesson for the Swiss-Champ.
When the world was dazed by the miraculous show of Roger, there was a question “Will he ever be dethroned?”. The answer came soon in the form of a blow from Nadal. Federer’ matches were thrilling and should be watched when the other-side player happens to be Djokovic or Rafa.
This happenes to be Novak’ third win over Federer.
The sets showed clear win for Djokovic, he would have had a well-designed plan of the serves prior to the match because Novak took a clear control of the first-set tie-breaker. The second set was critical for both. Federer lost with 7-5 in the second set. It took Djokovic twenty minutes to pull the points for him to 5-2. It was a costly affair to take chances on the second set which was the match-deciding factor indeed. The stakes on both the parties were high.
Bidding a farewell to the clichéd duo of the single’ final event, there will a fresh set coming to rule the Slam this year, after three years, are the people ready for a change?
