Jersey No. 10

The concept of jerseys was introduced for the purpose of referring to the players on the field and for positioning them from a farther point of view. All numbers were the same at the advent of this very ideology however with time some figures turned into hit-numerical and few gained wretched connotations.

The possession of jersey number ‘10’ by eminent players who in fact are the match-makers has brought glory for this figure. In football the bearer of jersey no. 10 is considered to be the most prized chap of all and the goal-gainer or the playmaker.  Fortunately or unfortunately the figure has got the belief. Like metaphysics, it is something ‘abstract’ and can only be felt. The wearers of number ten jerseys include almost all top players of soccer. Credits go to Pele and Maradona for tagging this number with luck. The legends have got the current generation players carrying the legacy after them which include Rooney, Kaka, Fabregas, Zizou (Zinedine Zidane), Beckham, Platini, Totti, Figo, Ronaldhino, Owen and many others to be named. Messi made this thought mightier with his magnificent matches.

Ten-holders have become a cult; the axiom is extended to our games too. Who has the jersey no. ten? Sachin Tendulkar, the God of the game is another golden bearer.

Playmaker or the play-breaker the jerseys have got a name for them, more than for identification the purpose of numbering the shirts have taken a new dimension in the last decade. When it comes to soccer, the player wearing number ten ‘has’ to perform as the number gives him an urge!
