The Australian Open, one of the great grand slams at the start of this year, is all set on rapid-fire. With players fighting a tough battle against their opponents, world’s most favorite top players have entered the last 16.
Belgium’s top star Kim Clijsters struggled a lot to get into the top 16 of the Australian Open tennis. Cornet, who fought on her 21st birthday surrendered under the hands of Clijsters at 7-6(3), 6-3. US Open champion Clijsters has a chance to be ranked the World’s no.1 two years after her break to have a baby, if she wins and Caroline Wozniacki falls before the semifinals.
World No. 4 Soderling and World No. 5 Murray, steamed towards a possible quarterfinal showdown. Murray dismissed Guillermo Garcia Lopez 6-1, 6-1, 6-2. Murray will play either with Marcos Baghdatis or Jurgen Melzer in the next round and successively with Swede Soderling. World No.1 Nadal had to fight hard to win over Australian Bernard Tomic for a 6-2, 7-5, 6-3 win.
Meanwhile, at the men’s doubles, India’s Rohan Bopanna and Pakistan’s Aisam-ul-Haq-Qureshi entered into the third round of the matches, by defeating French duo Jeremy Chardy and Arnaud Clement with 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. They will face Michael Llodra of France and Nenad Zimonjic of Serbiain the next round.
