December 4, 2010: Below are pre-match analysis for various games to be played today in the Barclay’s English Premier League.
Arsenal Vs Fulham
Time: 1500 hrs GMT
Venue: The Emirates Stadium, London
Arsenal, currently in the third position in the league table, will look to close the gap on leaders Manchester United and second placed Chelsea. In last weekend’s match, an intriguing encounter between them and Aston Villa eventually yielded a 4-2 win for the Gunners. Their goal scoring form has been spectacular this season, with Marouane Chamakh leading from the front. Samir Nasri is expected to be back for this match.
The away side are still looking for their first away win of the season. They are having a woeful run of form as they have failed to win in their last five Premier League matches, gaining only three points from a possible fifteen. At 16th place in the league table, Fulham don’t have much to show for their talented squad of players. Fulham fortunes depend upon terrific American Clint Dempsey who has the knack of scoring goals at the right time.
Chelsea Vs Everton
Time: 1500 hrs GMT
Venue: Stamford Bridge, London
Everton make the long trip south to London to face reigning Premier League champions Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. It is a test of sorts for Chelsea who were robbed of the first place in the league table when they drew 1-1 with Newcastle away. In their previous six matches, Chelsea have won only two. Positives for this match include the possibility of both inspirational captain John Terry and midfielder Michael Essien starting this game for the home side. This will boost the morale of the squad who have played large parts of this season with their services.
Everton need to get their season back on track. Their loss at West Bromwich Albion last weekend was a blow beneath the belt. Everton are currently at the 16th position in the league table, terrible for a club which aims to play in Europe next season. They have amassed only 16 points from 15 matches this season. Everton hopes lie upon prolific goal scorer Tim Cahill. The visitors will draw solace from the fact that in their previous four meetings with the champions at Stamford Bridge, they haven’t lost.
Manchester City Vs Bolton
Time: 1500 hrs
Venue: City of Manchester Stadium, Manchester
Bolton visit Manchester City on Saturday flying high in wake of wonderful performances in an excellent season so far. In their last five matches, Bolton have won three and drawn two. Owen Coyle, who has been the manager of the club since January, has been able to effectively inspire the club to achieve great heights. Striker Johan Elmander has netted eight times already this season for the Trotters, making him their top goal scorer. Captain Kevin Davies is also having an exceptional season so far.
Manchester City’s season, though started brightly, has slowly lost some of its steam. They are still in the running for the top spot, sitting at fourth place in the league table. Captain Carlos Tevez has scored nine goals for the club so far, and he is expected to carry the responsibility that comes with being the skipper with elan.
The Blackpool vs Manchester United match has been postponed owing to the unforgiving weather conditions up at Bloomfield Road.
