Well, damn useless I would say. The Indian squad for the SA ODI series has been announced. And, I was not much surprised by another foolish act from the selectors. From almost a year Sachin has been rested in ODI’s. When an ODI tournament against Kiwis at the place (India) where the mega event – the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 is going to be held was scheduled the Indian selectors chose a ‘Grade B’ team. And now I think again there is no damn exploit of calling back all premium members- Tendulkar, Dhoni, Sehwag, Bhajji etc.
I feel these days were meant to be for rest or practice in the nets. Or atleast I believe these days were not for playing in the tough conditions in SA. Yes it will be good practice but then what will be the outcome in case we lose. Tendulkar was rested totally from a year as if he will punch his bat like a magic stick in the world cup and do the tango for India. No Offence meant guys. I am also a big Tendulkar fan. But, then practice is the key to success. And all forms of the game require different strategies, skills and gameplay. So, being in touch is a must.
But, it might even backfire on my thought. Even before the 1983 World Cup the Indian team had a tough tour of West Indies. And they came back from there winning the series; entered the world cup with great confidence and finally clinched the Cup. So, let’s wish the same for India as well. They win the ODI series in South Africa and clinch the coveted trophy.
Looking at the squad it’s only Chawla and Ashwin who can be called newbies amongst others. Jadeja has been eventually dropped and Y. Pathan with his epic match winning century has been called in. So, what does that indicate for Mr. Piyush and Ashwin? I would say perform well here mates and you are getting in a ticket to the World Cup 2011. All eyes on Chawla, Yuvi, Ashwin and Pathan I guess… Best of luck guys give your best shot. Here is a look at the full squad:
