On Christmas Day, the Islam Nation planned to kick off its 31st National Games. There was barely any hype created for their country’s game here, no matter what, we should certainly peep in to know more. The legendary beginning was made in the presence of 3500 athletes at Qayyum Sports Complex at the Administrative centre of Pakistan, Peshwar.
What is happening out there?
The Jinnah Stadium is buzzing with sound of pistols for the athletes, cheers from the Peshawarities who welcomed the players with their arms wide, the roar of the winners and so on. Shaking in the reverberation the country is filled with a festive tone.
The opening ceremony of NG was highly imposing; the Pakistan squash king Amir Atlas Khan lit the torch during the ceremony. Tight securities, heavily shielded gates proved a high coordination between their Army and the Police Forces besides making the athletes feel secured in the hotels. Peshawar, Abbottabad, Mardan, Haripur, Islamabad are also couple of other locations where matches are scheduled.
Athletics, swimming, bodybuilding, boxing, handball, judo, kabaddi, karate, taekwondo, shooting, squash, table tennis, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, netball, baseball, hockey, football and wushu are in the National Games agenda.
Football was initially suspended due to security uncertainties but later on during this month start it made its way back in the National Games. The soccer draws looks very thrilling with two clusters namely Group-A and Group-B where ‘A’ seems very nationalistic as the teams are Pakistan Army, Navy and Railways. Pakistan Army has a high profile record as it has five gold medals in its pocket. Group-B has the Champion, eight times National Games winner Pakistan WAPDA clubbed with Pakistan Air Force, KP as the third team.
The athletes are provided with due treatment, well equipped gyms and practice grounds with required more precisely I would quote, desired amenities.
This four day flight of the sports, entertainment, and fun is swirling the spectators giving them the best ever New Year Treat.
