London is a very significant place as the best football clubs in the English Premier League originate from the country’s capital. Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspurs all London based clubs are through to the last 16 elimination round in the UEFA Champions League – a fact that every Londoner will love to think about. The three London clubs and Manchester United – the four qualifiers from England will all represent their country in the tough European competitions last sixteen. Currently English clubs occupy the most places in Europe’s best sixteen which itself is an achievement.
Dynamic debutants Tottenham Hotspurs impressed the world with their classy play and ended up finishing on top of their group above defending champions Inter Milan. Chelsea and Arsenal struggled through the end in their respective groups but eventually made it to the next round. Manchester United as expected were unchallenged and finished on top of their group and conceded only one goal in six matches.
As every football lover knows- this year’s final will be played in the Wembley, England. English fans are hoping that all home teams have a great chance to make it to the quarter finals and they are sure that at least one team will make it to the finals. But, Londoners have bigger dreams. They want to see an epic dream clash between two London clubs in the finals. Sounds interesting as all these teams are said to be potential winners. There are massive hopes on Chelsea and Arsenal because they have been through this grueling competition earlier. Many fans think that Tottenham won’t make it as inexperience will over-run their talent.
Such a rare possibility has actually occurred once in the European Cup’s history. In 1973 Ac Milan and Inter Milan (INTERNAZIONALE) met in the final at the monumental San Siro – the home stadium for both the clubs. Ac Milan won the match 3-2. That match is regarded as one of the best matches of all times. Londoners are hoping for something exactly the same or even better.
Their dream isn’t just a dream. Both Arsenal and Chelsea have been in the Finals although they never won it. Tottenham has critics but the surprise element they possess can be the key to European success. An English club in the final is an expectation, two English clubs is a wish but two London clubs in the final is a dream that every Londoner wants to live.
