India might be in a good position at the moment in terms of rankings and wins, but there’s nothing good about their schedule.
It is unfair to blame any cricketer for underperforming when the BCCI in the last few years has given such a tight schedule that its surprising how the players have managed to take a piss.
From the beginning of the year to the end they are only playing cricket, there used to be a time, many years ago where cricket was a seasonal sport and a few series would come about and excitement would build.
If India plays another series with Sri Lanka many will lose their minds or maybe even worse… interest, the Board of Control for Cricket in India is fully responsible for killing the buzz.
Presently, the India vs. South Africa Test series is going on, India hasn’t shown much brilliance as of now which is understandable, but what isn’t understandable is why no warm up matches were held.
The answer is: Some players were taken before hand to South Africa and some were finishing the ODI’s vs. New Zealand so where’s the time?
India Cricket Schedule: Year 2010
- January – India in Bangladesh (2 Test Match and Tri-series)
- February – March – South Africa in India (3 Test Match and 5 ODI’s)
- April – T20 World Cup in West Indies
- May – India in Zimbabwe (Tri-series and 2 T20’s)
- June – Asia Cup ODI tournament
- July-August – India in Sri Lanka (3 Test Match and Tri-series)
- October – Australia in India ( 2 Test Match and 3 ODI’s)
- November – New Zealand in India (3 Test Match and 5 ODI’s)
- December – India in South Africa (3 Test Match, 5 ODI’s and T20)
One must also remember to fit in the IPL in all this, which we all know is as taxing as any series. This goes to show that the lure of money is just too much for an Indian cricketer now.
Due credit must be given to MS Dhoni, who amidst this air tight schedule managed to sign so many endorsements, shoot so many advertisements and also managed to get married, that’s what you call time management.
If the Indian team does badly in the ICC Cricket World Cup, the only reason for it would be that they got burnt out; talent cannot be questioned as we all know when in form almost all can do the required damage.
This crazy schedule is horrible for the players as the number of injuries increase, every player is not going to be a Sachin Tendulkar who has played years and years of cricket and made it his whole life.
The BCCI has by all means reduced an average cricket career of a player by half because of the schedule.
