Dec 11: Vijay’s Kumar brilliant form saw him to take the lead position, after the end of the third round of the Crompton Greaves Open, which is held at the Bombay Presidency Golf Course on Friday. Vijay from Lucknow had his pro shot, which is his second successive five under 65, which got his total to 11 under 199, which takes him ahead of Mandeo Singh Pathania and the overnight leader Raffick Ali Mollah by two precious strokes. Vijay who was positioned third during the end of the second round, had a great third round, as he had fired four birdies on row on the first four holes and was sitting on the top, which gave him an edge for the rest of the day.
“I made some very good recoveries after disappointedly hitting a couple of wayward tee shots. My shot on the fourth stroke landed in the adjoining fairway, but it didn’t stop to take birdie on that hole. I also managed to hit some good approaching shots. I scored really great on the par 5s. As Eagle was put from 25 feet on the par five, 18th was very special one to me, as it gave me tones of confidence and boost before the final round,” said the 42 year old veteran Kumar. Pathania was only able to score of two under 68, to throw his hat in the ring.
He is currently two strokes behind the present leader Kumar and is tied in second position with the overnight leader Mollah, who had a nightmare in third round carding just one over 71. Delhi’s Karanjit is sitting at the place of fourth, having eight under 202, while the trio of Mukesh Kumar, Sujjan Singh and Harendra Gupta are placed jointly in the fifth position with total of seven under 203 respectively.
