No other league in Europe provides the competing teams more opportunities than the English Premier league. Four teams Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City are involved in a grueling battle for supremacy in England. Unlike Spanish La Liga and Italian Serie A where the league is destined to win by two teams in a one way battle, EPL has a wide open championship race.
The current league standings show how closely the championship is being contested. Just like the previous weekend this one would be another intriguing race as only six points separate the top six teams this season. Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal are contesting for the English crown while Tottenham and Manchester city are vying the fourth spot in order to qualify for European tournaments.
Manchester Utd visit Blackpool while Chelsea hosts a side that is in good form. Arsenal will host the 156th London derby as they play hosts to struggling Fulham. Chelsea have the biggest challenge this weekend as they had a forgettable last four weeks and also their results against Everton in the last two seasons were not convincing.
“We’ve managed to claw ourselves into a position where we’re two points ahead of Chelsea.” Said a happy United manager Sir Alex Ferguson. “You always want to win those games because I think they’re really significant”, he said when asked about Blackpool. “Sir Alex is a living legend. What he has done in the game is just unreal and he is the top of the tree when it comes to British managers”, said Blackpool manager Ian Holloway. “Welcoming Sir Alex will be great and propably the highlight of my managerial career so far because it’s a league game, not a one-off cup match, and we’re playing the mighty Manchester United.”
The only good news that Chelsea received in the past few weeks is that John Terry is set to return. “We have dropped a lot of points recently. Looking back only 2-3 weeks ago, we were so many points clear and in goal difference as well. Now both gaps have been closed”, said John Terry in a press conference.
The dynamic weekend can witness many changes and that’s what makes the EPL interesting. With four teams ready to take top spot no one will leave any quarter and pure football will be enjoyed by the worldwide audience.
