The newly crowned Indian owners received a Luke Warm welcome before the Kick Off from the fans in their home ground. The Rao brothers seemed too happy with the reception they received and the victory turned out to be the cherry on the cake.
The investment by Indian owners for a British Club seemed to have a good beginning with Blackburn Rovers wining there first match after their take over by Venky’s at home ground against a comparatively strong side Aston Villa. The chicken bucket of the match turned out to Morten Gamst Pedersen who scored two goals and sealed a victory in front of the home fans.
The match which was all square in the first half; the only funny thing which was witnessed in the first half was that when Givet clustered over the referee while trying to win the ball and then later fell down and the game continues with a large section of the crowd booing at him.
Just as the second half started the Pedersen converted a free kick thanks to some fumble by Brad Friedel. This way rover’s took the lead. Then later the match seemed to be dominated by the away team as they created number of chances in the second and there inform midfielder Stewart Downing came close to scoring but missed and that turned out to be a vital miss for Villa.
The match then later seemed to be balanced and Rovers looked more confident with their passing and held some good amount of possession. Their dominance in possession later was converted into a goal when a corner from the left caused all sorts of problems in the area and, after the visitors failed to clear, Pedersen was there to turn the ball in from close range inn 66th minute.
Then later the villa never seemed to make any real impact on the game and finally the match ended in a score line of 2-0. This seemed to be a good result for the Venky’s as they won the first match as Owners of Blackburn Rovers and they moved to the 11th place in the table and 4 points clear of the relegation zone.
