Nov 26: As Mahendra Singh Dhoni is given rest for the upcoming New Zealand ODI series; India’s so called ‘Run Machine’ Gautam Gambhir gets an opportunity to lead India. Even the master blaster Sachin Tendulkar and the explosive Virender Sehwag, will also not feature in the series. BCCI is seeing Gambhir as the future captain of India. There is no doubt over Gautam’s potential and he is quite experienced in International cricket now. India won the Test series against New Zealand by 1-0 and the team is ready for the ODIs. It’s a series of five ODIs. The first match is on Nov 28 at Guwahati in Nehru stadium.
“To be a captain of India was always my dream and I’m very happy that it has come true. Of course it will be a very huge responsibility on my shoulders, and I’m ready to take that responsibility. I’m confident that we will win the series. I hope that the young brigade of my team will win us the tournament, under my captainship. Definitely the young guns will have to fire to do well in the tournament.” said the excited Gautam Gambhir. “Even I have a great experience of leading Delhi and the IPL team Delhi daredevils, so this will help me much.” added Gambhir.
Gambhir will have a very good support from his young players like Suresh Raina, Virat Kohli, Murali Vijay and Saurabh Tiwary. But he will have to be without strike bowler Praveen Kumar, in the bowling department as he is down with fever. Ashish Nehra has replaced Praveen for the first ODI. Wriddhiman Saha is the new face in the team and will handle the responsibility of wicket keeping. New Zealand will certainly look to exploit the Indian conditions as much as possible, as the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 is very near.
