Rai (Haryana), Nov 01: The Haryana state players after winning medals in Commonwealth Games has received very good prize cashes from the Haryana government. And now seeing this achievement from the state players, Haryana government has decided a whooping cash prize of Rs 2 crore for gold medallist’s winners in London Olympics to be held in 2012. State chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said that now the players will know exactly what they will gain after winning medals in London Olympics and in Guangzhou Asian Games this month. There will be cash prize of Rs 25 lakhs for gold winners in Asian games. So as the silver and bronze medal winners will receive Rs 15 lakhs and 10 lakhs respectively.
Hooda said “Haryana state players who win gold, silver and bronze in London Olympics will be rewarded cash prize of Rs 2 crore, 1 crore and 50 lakhs respectively.” Before that there was cash award of Rs 1 crore, 50 lakhs and 25 lakhs respectively for winners in Olympics. This huge announcement was made at the Moti Lal Nehru School of Sports here in Sonipat district at a state-level public function ‘Chak De Haryana-Chak De India‘ to honour the CWG medal winners. There were thousands of people present in the function while the other hundreds could not enter due to full packed stadium.
“In Commonwealth Games India won 101 medals out of which Haryana state players won 31 of them and the most noted thing out of 38 gold medals won by India, 21 were achieved by Haryana players,” said the excited Bhupinder Hooda at this event which also coincided with 44th state birthday (Haryana was born on Nov 1, 1966). The athletes who failed to win medals in CWG were not let down by state as they also received cash prizes of Rs 2 lakhs to each at the function. Haryana was on top among the players participation in CWG from the whole nation having 54 players.
The chief minister also said a “Haryana Sportspersons Development Fund” would be raised to benefit players of various disciplines from the state. Sports academies will also come up in various parts of the state.” He also included that the village from which the medal winner’s athletes came will be helped for development work of Rs 51 lakhs, 31 lakhs and 21 lakhs respectively. This will be done so that the villagers will be proud of victory of their children and the players will also receive jobs from the state.
