Mumbai, Nov 11: As the countdown begins with just under 100 days left, batting master Sachin Tendulkar has been selected as the brand ambassador for cricket World Cup 2011, which will be co-hosted by India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat said “We are very lucky enough to have an exceptional player like Sachin giving support to our flagship event. I don’t think any player in the world has been inspiring and role model like Sachin, who has always been motivating his nation. The respect and affection that he enjoys in cricket goes way beyond his native India. It’s not only cricketers but all the other sportsperson and athletes all around the world admire him for what he consistently performs and what he contributes to cricket.”
Tendulkar excitedly said that, playing the World Cup at home will make the event, even more special to him. As far as the role of brand ambassador is concerned, Sachin will be called upon to promote and support variety of ICC initiatives of the tournament, which is the third biggest event in the whole world, and which is scheduled from February 19 to April 2. “There are just more 100 days to go and I’m really looking ahead to be a part of yet another World Cup” said the God of cricket. Sachin will equal another record of participating in six consecutive World Cups with Pakistan’s Javed Miandad.
“In terms of limited over’s of cricket, ICC cricket World Cup is the only highest level where you can play. So there’s always an excitement and thrill to take part in such an event, which is very highly followed.” said the batting maestro. “The fact that the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 event will be staged here in the sub-continent makes it even more special for me and I am keen to ensure we play well. As a team we would be doing everything we can to win the world cup on home soil.” said Sachin Tendulkar.
