Gerald Majola, CEO of CSA, to be cleared of all charges
Gerald is the chief executive of Cricket South Africa. He was charged with financial impropriety. He was believed to receive bonus payments after the last year’s IPL in South Africa. But, he is now expected to be “cleared of all charges” as no evidence of fraud was found against him after the association’s board meeting on Friday. The CSA’s internal commission of inquiry was headed by CSA vice president AK Khan and it looked down into this matter.
Majola along with 39 other staff members were paid bonuses after the successful second IPL edition. But, they did not go through the CSA’s remuneration committee. Irregularity in the financial statements was reported in August by CSA’s auditors Deloitte. CSA insiders said that nothing suspicious could be read into the payments because they were made according to a precedent for paying bonuses after major tournaments that was set at the 2003 World Cup.
After Dhoni now Bhajji slams at the Indian pitches
Indian ace spinner Harbhajan Singh criticized the Hyderabad pitch which offered no help to fast bowlers and spinners. The match ended in a draw and Bhajji did better with the bat then bowl! “These days foreign teams come to India secure in the knowledge that it is the best place to get runs,” he told the Times of India. “Gary Kirsten told me that when he came to play a Test series in India, the best place to bat was as an opener, because once the spinners came on, batting became difficult. But now, every wicket has been re-laid and the black soil has made the wickets pretty firm. It just doesn’t turn and the wicket plays well even on the final day.”
In the Hyderabad test, Bhajji along with Sreesanth put together a 105-run partnership for the last wicket which he says signifies how flat the pitches are. He said “Even a no. 11 was playing like a Sachin Tendulkar. So, we should give all the credit to the groundsmen.” Harbhajan said flat pitches had become a repetitive problem in Test series in India. “I can’t remember the last time I bowled on a turning track where the ball spun and bounced,” he said. “I think Kanpur was the last and we got the desired result against South Africa in 2008. I don’t suggest we play on bad wickets. But we should play to our strength, and our strength, over the years, has been spin bowling.”
Indian bowlers failed to take 20 wickets in each of the two test matches against New Zealand. MS earlier also blamed the pitches for failing to produce results saying the teams will have to “play for 10 days” to get a result. Now, in the Nagpur Test with India at the No. 1 spot and the Kiwi’s at the no. 8 anything less than a victory would surely be dissatisfaction. Hope, we win the match and clinch the series!
