Injuries are one of the best things that could happen to a professional Footballer and more over that if the injury turns out to be a major one then it’s next to hanging the boots by himself. There are very few names in the International football that has made a great comeback. A player once got a long absence due to injury is hardly remembered by fans and anyone else. There is no shortage of talented names in international football as soon as a player gets injured in no time a substitute is brought in.
So the life of injured footballer becomes nothing more than miserable and only a strong will power and composure to make a comeback can help him.
There have been many players who are out injured from a long period. I would like to mention three major names that have been put off action from quite a long period:
1. Kaka: The ex- AC Milan and current Real Madrid player made his last appearance for the club in May 2010. Since his arrival at Real Madrid to a whopping $89 Million turned out to be the second biggest transfer of all time. Since he came he never turned out to worth his money with his performance and had constant problems with his groin injury.
There was never a doubt in talents of former world player of the year. The point of concern was he was not able to deliver the best because of his injuries. Finally he got a knee in May 2010 and since that he hasn’t played for Real Madrid.
Mesut Ozil of Germany was brought to the team to be more creative in the midfield by new manger Jose Mouriniho and since his arrival no one had any talk about Kaka. It would be very interesting to see how he makes and comeback and even after his comeback it would be difficult for him to find a first team spot.
His absence must not have been a major difference for the player this season but his presence would surely make a difference for the rival club.
2. Jonathan Woodgate: The Spurs team who recently qualified for Champions League might be missing there experienced Centre Back Jonathan Woodgate. He is considered to be one of the most talented Centre Back in the world. His calmness, positioning and ability to read the game made him one of the best in business.
Since his arrival at Totenham he impressed everyone with his performance and later turned out to be the vice-captain of the club. But later he was caught by a groin injury and never seemed to recover even after treatments in USA and Australia. So he was not included in Harry Redknaps 23 member squad in first half of premier league.
His comeback would be a real solution for Totenham’s poor defense in both premier league and champions leagues.
3. Owen Hargreaves: The man who was considered to be one of the best holding midfielders in England came from Bayern Munich to Manchester United for a fee of £17million. Since his arrival in the club he has just made 40 appearances for the red devils. Although he has been impressive in his short spam but late was caught by a major Knee injury and had to undergo two major surgeries. He made his last complete appearance for the club on November 2010 and till now he never seemed to make a complete comeback.
He made a short appearance in stoppage time last season against Sunderland and this season being included in the starting lineup for the first time after a break never lasted for a long period. He just made an appearance for 6 minutes and later limped off the ground. Thank fully it was a calf injury this time.
Manchester United might be unbeaten till now this season but has conceded some late goals and has lost all 2 points in many matches. His presence in the midfield would have been a long term solution for Manchester United midfield woes. It would be a highly anticipated comeback for both the player and the team.
It would be more than beneficial for international football and football lovers if all these players make an impact comeback. Let’s Hope for the best and wait for them to return with a bang.
