Basel (Switzerland), Nov 2: Current world no 1 Spaniard Rafael Nadal and Swiss champ Roger Federer will kick off their 2011 season against each other at the Abu Dhabi Tennis exhibition. Last year the same title was won by Nadal. Roger, who is currently competing at his home Swiss indoors, will meet up his old rival Rafael Nadal in Gulf for third time as in many years. Nadal won the exhibition this year with Roger slipping to third position. The Duo will be accompanied by two time French Open finalist Robin Soderling, Wimbledon finalist Tomas Berdych and Jo-Wilfred Tsonga and Marcos Baghdatis who were the former Australian open finalists.
The unofficial tournament which is of three days will start from Dec 30. “I’m presently having the best season of my career and it all started from Abu Dhabi win last year, so it really holds up great memories. I hope I will continue the same in 2011.” Said the Spaniard champ Rafael Nadal. “The early season rhythm in Abu Dhabi will be of great opportunity to be well prepared for Australian Open” said the World no 3. Roger Federer. The Mubadala World Tennis Championship which is presented by Flash Entertainment has consistently held its position as one of the speediest growing and most popular sporting events in the Gulf region.
This event was nominated for Best Sports Events at the 2009 Middle East Event Awards, it gained popularity of near to 15,000 fans enjoying the planet’s best players which includes 16 times grand slam titles winner Roger federer, present champion Rafael Nadal and new emerging talent Robin Soderling who will play for cash prize money of $250,000. British player Andy Murray won the first Abu Dhabi exhibition in the year 2008.
