The long regime of Sir Alex Ferguson is one of the best things which could happen for United. The Scottish has been the manger of Manchester United from the period of 1986 and still it continues. He has been the 2nd longest serving manager for Manchester United. Ferguson has won many awards and holds many records including winning Manager of the Year most times in British football history. In 2008, he became the third British manager to win the European Cup on more than one occasion.
The Scottish who has achieved almost everything in his long reign of 24 years is the most successful coach for Manchester United. His aim is now to surpass the arch rivals Liverpool in the number of League titles and it seems that he would declare his retirement after that. The question is who could replace such a great personality. There had been many names coming up but some of the top contenders are as follows:
Jose Mouriniho:
The ex-Chelsea and the Current Real Madrid manger is one of the best coaches the world has even seen. He has proved his worth being with Chelsea and last year with Inter Milan. He has the ability to manage a top level club and give a good competition in Champions League. He is not just a good coach but also a person with a great personality. Even he has a firm attitude and considers no player bigger than the club. He is always in talks to be the SAF’s successor and has always commented that he would love to replace the living legend. Both Ferguson and Mouriniho are in praise for each other.
Eric Cantona:
One of the best Manchester United striker and the Ex Manchester United captain is often linked to be the successor of Sir Alex Ferguson. Once asked to Sir Alex Ferguson about Eric Cantona to be the successor he had all positive comments for him he said “I think Eric would do very well in the job. He is single-minded, I’m sure he would be a great manager,” said Ferguson. “I’ve always thought he had the capabilities to be a great coach in the English game,” This seems to be a clear indication for a green signal from the current manger to make the ex-Player to be his successor.
Ole Gunner Solskjaer:
The 37-year-old joined the Red Devils in 1996 and went on to have a long and fruitful career at Old Trafford, before hanging up his boots and becoming the reserve team coach. The super sub has now expressed his thoughts on becoming the Manchester United manger. Alex Ferguson has always been keen on bringing a Successor who loves the club more than anything. The management will be also keen on bringing someone who has a passion and commitment for both the club and the game. It would be a good option to bring him as a coach as he knows the in and out of the clubs policy and culture.
The options are still wide open with some good name can be considered with successful Everton manager David Moyes, or Ex Sunderland coach and United player Roy Keane, Fabio Capello. The list may go on and on but it will be very difficult to find someone who is of SAF’s caliber and persona. It would be really interesting to see who may come on as the next United manger.
