Sachin Tendulkar added yet another award to his memorabilia when he was named the ICC Cricketer of the Year during the 2010 ICC Awards Ceremony held at Bangalore. Sachin also received the people’s choice award after having a fabulous period where he scored 1064 runs in 10 tests at an average of 81.84 and also 917 runs in 17 ODI’s at 65.28 which also included the only double century ever scored in limited overs international cricket. He fought of stiff competition from Virender Sehwag, Hashim Amla and Graeme Swann to win the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for the cricketer of the year.
However Sachin missed out on other awards in the major categories he was nominated in Sehwag was named the Test player of the year while A.B De Villiers was selected for the ODI player award. Graeme Swann, who had an outstanding season with the ball, had to contend himself with a place in the ICC test team of the year for which Mahendra Singh Dhoni was named the captain. The team also included Sehwag, Tendulkar, Sangakkara, Kallis, Amla, Steyn, Anderson, Katich and Bollinger.
Ricky Ponting, who failed to make the cut in all award categories, was named the captain for the ICC ODI team of the year which also featured Tendulkar, Dhoni and fellow Australians Watson, Mike Hussey, Bollinger and Ryan Harris.
Brendon McCullum won the award for the T20 Performance of the year for his swashbuckling 116* against Australia in Christchurch.
