Finally the Office of the Prime Minister had to step in, to clear the mess that has been created by the organizers who were handed the responsibility of conducting it in a smooth manner. Suresh Kalmadi may sulk, but the fact of the matter is that the inept handling of the whole project has even drawn the ire of the Queen of England, who is the head of the Commonwealth.
The argument is brandied that there has not been any misutilisation or siphoning of the money and that the money has been used for creation and realignment of infrastructure of Delhi. Well, if that being so, how is it that one downpour has inundated whole of Delhi, though tall claims were made that all the drains have been cleaned and there would not be any water logging. The Chief Minister of Delhi herself was caught in one of such traffic jams after the showers. Imagine what would happen to Delhi, if it received rains in the same proportions as Mumbai received. Even the flyovers were water logged as proper chutes were not created to let the water seep down.
One also fails to understand why no effort was made by the Delhi Government to go for water harvesting when the infrastructure was being upgraded. Delhi is a city, that is perpetually short on water, and with so-much water being received during the current season, it would indeed have augmented the water supply of the city, and for this foresight the citizens of this city-state would have handed another term to Shiela Dixit on a platter. Not likely however, as the civil society has really become disgusted with the kind of torture and trauma that it has to go owing to discovery of a hidden civilization being undertaken by various civic authorities throughout this city state, aka the national capital.
Let the world know how inept we are at handing such situations and what mockery the politicians have made of various sports bodies in the country. May be as an aftermath of the mess that has been created by the Commonwealth Games, at least the management of sports affairs of the country could go into the hands of the players who have been associated with the games earlier. They understand the games much better than the politicians and one only hopes that post CWG, when the nation raises a hue and cry the politicians may be booted out of the various sports associations.
