Though he has been an ardent fan of the game of cricket it is for the first time that Amitabh Bachchan aka Big B is associating with a tournament formally. As the Airtel Champions League Twenty20 is going to commence soon, to build up anticipation for the tournament among the fans Big B is coming out with the commercial that is in the line with the rap style that he has established as his own. A film is being shot promoting the tournament that would feature, along with Big B, Herschelle Gibbs, Andrew Symonds, Sourav Ganguly etc. Big B is playing the role of Sutradhar who would unfold the contour s of the tournament.
If one would remember the commercials of Deccan Chargers being aired on television where Adam Gilchrist tries to woe a girl by speaking prompted Hindi, in the same manner, the present commercial is also going to be structured.
In the commercial Gibbs has been shown playing a mandolin, and Symonds chilling out in a bath tub, while Dada is just in a contemplative mood lazing in a spa. As a Sutradhar Big B is going to instigate them to come out of their comfort Zones and rise to the challenge with their prowess and ability.
Big B has been chosen with great care as the brand ambassador as he has an amazing fan following that transcends all age barriers. One only wonders what happens to the original brand ambassador of Airtel, Shah Rukh Khan and the new ambassador Sharman Joshi. May be both of them would be seen in the next stage as the tournament rolls in and it leads to a climax. It could also be the fact that Shah Rukh Khan being one of the team owners, he may not have been chosen to be the brand ambassador for the game as a conscious decision.
Whatever be the case, the built up to the game indeed is exciting and one only hopes that the tournament would also be as exciting also. It has carved an opportunity to create another vertical from the existing vertical to make T20 cricket nearly around the year affair. It is also affirmation of the fact that cricket indeed has become a game that is dictated and directed by television.
