As the newly crowned league and FA cup winners, Chelsea can now set their sights firm on Champions League glory for the upcoming season. The team requires much sorting out, in spite of their impressive campaign, largely due to an ageing lineup. Michael Ballack and Joe Cole have not been released, with Yossi Benayon being the only notable signing. They are however expected to make a big dip in the market, with rumour mills claiming Torres nicknamed “El Nino” is looking at the Londoners as a possible destination .All is not roseate for the ‘Blues’ however as Real Madrid are trying to prize away Ricardo Carvalho and/or Ashley Cole from them, a move that should see their defense weaken considerably. Carlo Ancelotti’s primary objective should be retain Ashley Cole along with the Portugese wall and reinforce his midfield and forward line.
Defense:
With Carvalho setting his sights on a move to the Santiago Bernabeau, Ancelloti should be looking at the other Portugese Center back Bruno Alves, as a possible replacement. Bruno Alves is a strong and a worthy candidate to succeed Carvalho and the lure of Premier league will be hard to refuse. Retaining Ashley Cole is a must as he is next to irreplaceable.
Midfield:
With Ballack and Joe Cole released plus Lampard not growing any younger, Chelsea’s attempts at signing Ramires is understandable. A tireless box to box player Ramires can keep Chelsea’s midfield ticking with his work rate. On the left, Malouda should see a more prominent role with Yossi Benayon donning the role of impact substitute.
Forward:
The ageing duo of Drogba and Anelka are still a competitive strike force in the League but no club can be without noticing the unsettled Torres. A lot of money (around £ 50 million) could see him make Stamford Bridge his new home and consequently make them the most potent attack in Europe. Sergio Aguero also seems a viable option, should landing Torres fail. Neymar was also rumoured to be on Chelsea’s radar, and can be quite a handful for the opposition’s defense.
This season should see Chelsea fielding some of their youth recruits, notably Kakuta and Sturridge. With a few tweaks here and there, Chelsea should see themselves ready for the upcoming season.
