In its major announcement, the IPL Governing Council chaired by Rajeev Shukla, Rajya Sabha MP & the Chairman of IPL, has decided to felicitate the five stalwarts and legends of the Indian cricket team. The awardees include; Virender Sehwag, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman for their outstanding service to the gentlemen’s game over the last few decades together.

They are indeed the best ambassadors of the game with impeccable career records without any controversies. Their exemplary demeanor on and off the field is inspiring too. Their humility, humbleness, polite behavior, astonishing performance on the ground for years and astute knowledge of the game make them true contenders for this honour.

These five legends or the “Panch Pandavas” of the Indian cricket team will be felicitated at the VIVO IPL 10 ceremony in Hyderabad. “The decision was taken at the GC (IPL Governing Council) meeting today that five legends of Indian cricket – Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman and Virender Sehwag will be felicitated at the opening ceremony in Hyderabad on April 5,” IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla stated to media after the IPL GC meet.

Whatsoever, something is still missing in the list. Yes, the name of current Indian national coach and former captain Anil Kumble was nowhere in the list. But his contribution was a humongous one with more than 950 wickets to his credit across the formats for team India. He was a true match winner and guided India to a lot of victories at home and away matches by way of his sublime leg spin bowling, determination and grits.

Except VVS Laxman – all four of these cricketers in the awardees list have led the side once or multiple times at international matches. But, VVS Laxman complemented the same with his extra ordinary batting in the fourth innings in his era. He did sublime batting under pressure and against the finest bowling attack at fourth innings throughout his career that made him Very Very Special in reality.
