After an historic whitewash in Australia, the Indian cricket team became the number one ranked team in T20 rankings. It was an excellent performance by team India who outplayed Australia in the T20 series. Before this series started India was 8th in the ICC rankings but a whitewash against Australia helped them to reach the top of ICC T20 rankings.
The Indian batsmen especially Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan played key roles in giving India big totals in the first two matches. In the third match chasing 198 both openers gave India a flying start and Virat Kohli continued his excellent form in the series. His batting contributions helped the Indian team to put pressure on the Australian bowling attack. In the last match Suresh Raina played a crucial knock which helped India to win the match on the last ball. It has been impressive performance by the Indian bowlers who were smashed to all parts of the ground in the One day International series which India lost 1-4. Jasprit Bumrah has been the find of the T20 series bowling Yorkers at the death. The spinners Ashwin and Jadeja also bowled brilliantly to restrict the Australian batting line-up.
With the T20 World Cup coming up, it looks that the Indian team will go with the same side. They will play three T20’s against Sri Lanka and then Asia Cup which will be played in the T20 format including Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and one qualifying team.
The second place is occupied by West Indies who has dropped from the first place. Both West Indies and Sri Lanka are on the same points but by decimal points West Indies occupied the second place. The third place has been occupied by Sri Lanka who had a disappointing T20 series against New Zealand. Their next assignment will be against India from 9th February. The series will be a 3 match series.
