Indian Cricket team for the next month’s Bangladesh tour has been announced by the five-member BCCI selection committee headed by Sandeep Patil in Mumbai this afternoon. India will play 1 test and 3 ODIs against Bangladesh at their grounds from June 10 onwards. The first test will be played from June 10 – 14. The 3 ODIs will be played at Mirpur. 1st ODI will be played on June 18 while the remaining 2 ODIs will be held on June 21 and June 24 respectively.
Captain cool MS Dhoni will lead the ODI side while Virat Kohli will be captain for India’s 1 off test against Bangladesh. Interestingly, the series was earlier perceived to be a farewell series for India’s senior cricketers like Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, Zaheer Khan, Gautam Gambhir and Harbhajan Singh. But it doesn’t turn out true. Only Harbhajan Singh could make it to the test squad. The rest of the senior cricketers have been overlooked again.
Bhajji’s excellent performance with the ball in the ongoing Indian Premiere League (IPL) helped him get into team India’s test squad. Former test skipper Sourav Ganguly stated to a section of electronic media yesterday that Bhajji deserves to play for India for few more years considering his form in the IPL. Turbunator’s selection brought a big smile to the face of Veteran off-spinner and his fans. He was considered mainly because of his ability to trouble left-hand batsmen. Bangladesh have a lot of attacking left handed batsmen in their squad, hence he was selected. The 34-year-old has played 101 tests and took 413 wickets so far. He is still proficient to bowl doosra which troubled a lot of top-notch batsmen over the last one and half decade.
Inspite of Dhoni’s retirement from test matches earlier this year, none of the veteran batsmen have been picked up by the selection committee, and thus posing a big question mark over their future. Youngsters like KL Rahul, Pujara and Rahane have been favored and included into the final 15 of the test squad. There is not much change in India’s ODI squad. Akshar Patel’s splendid performance with bat and ball in the IPL impressed everybody. His inclusion is a welcome initiative for the team’s future. One more change is Dhawal Kulkarni’s selection in place of injured Mohammad Shami.
