BCCI marketed a product that no Indian first had a good opinion on it. If that is possible, then why can’t a product that something we love can’t be marketed successfully?
Lets get straight into point rather listing out pros and cons of Indian Premier League. I think their had been enough written and lot discussed about it. So, what’s this new proposal? Include test matches into IPL season. what does that mean? T00 much of anything is itself a poison. T20 is boring nowadays and i want to watch Dale Steyn bowling to Sachin longer than just 24 balls at maximum. Why? here are the reasons,
Test cricket needs India and India needs success in test cricket
Except in England and Australia, test cricket is dying everywhere and you got to accept it rather than pretending it will survive. Don’t look down rather look ahead and see how many youngster really passionate about test cricket? Sitting at the top of tree, we are shouting test cricket is ultimate form but down under, the roots are been cut down briskly and the might of test cricket tree is falling down in its statue.
South Africa now hold a T20 instead of traditional boxing day test. India, the once might of batting fortress is struggling to score runs in test cricket. Many countries changing their FTP test schedule into ODI’s and T20’s (India scheduled to play 3 test matches vs Srilanka but now it is changed into 5 ODI’s and 2 T20’s).
All these radical changes leads to one root cause and it is called IPL. India holds the magnet today for cricket world. I am not saying destroy IPL but it can be modified to redeem the real cricket enthusiasm amongst both the players and fans.
Also, if playing shorter format in IPL had helped Indian players to become stronger and win the world cup, then isn’t playing test cricket in IPL will help us to get back to No.1 spot?
IPL needs to survive for years to come
IPL is an economic market for all associated with cricket. It needs to survive for its financial holdings in future also. And for that IPL needs to do away with its meaningless format of home and away concept and reduce the number of matches.
In IPL, home team has no rights to choose the kind of pitch it wants and don’t carry much climatic or geographical change in environment to have any advantage over away team. Scores are not carried over between home and away matches in deciding the winner. Then, why you need home and away concept?
Also a simple business logic. You need to attract all kinds of people and at same time must not do anything to affect your base (in IPL case, it is test cricket). Because once base gets destroyed, your time will be up soon in market. Another point, you must offer feasible variety available in your product type.
If you can think of any more reasons, then it also helps to strengthen case of inclusion of test cricket in IPL.
I know you might be feeling like “Test cricket is boring,it takes long time, it doesn’t provide enough excitement throughout, i will be at work during day time and etc.,”. Don’t worry, everything can be addressed.
So, whats the kind of test cricket in IPL?
You will find it out in next article. For now, just think whether addition of test cricket in IPL is good or bad.
